Art Consultant: Architect: Aurora Window German and French mouthblown glass, lead and solder with a protective glazing of tempered glass. Aurora was designed as a backlit stained glass “window” for the meditation chapel at Mat Su Valley Hospital. Although obviously an architectural installation, in many respects Aurora is more akin to free-hanging, autonomous stained glass, which is why this project is included in both the “Commissions” and “Autonomous” sections. Aurora’s drapery is made of filmy, opalescent, German, mouthblown glass in contrast with the darker transparent colors in the background. In backlighting this allows the Aurora to appear to glow in front of the picture plane. |
