Resurrection
and Pentecost Windows
St. Mary Immaculate (Catholic) Church
Plainfield, Illinois
Architecture: Healy, Snyder, Bender & Associates, Naperville, Illinois
Two @ 12.0' diameter each (3.66 m dia.)
These two windows are like gemstones set in this expansive contemporary sanctuary.
An empty "Star Cross" in the "Resurrection Window" dominates in a field
of blue transparent glass representing the breath of an omnipresent Holy
Spirit. Below is a spectrum of transparent glass ranging through the seasonal
colors of the first half of the church calendar. The border incorporates
representational images of the symbols of the the crucifixion.
The "Pentecost Window" features a figure that is part angel and part dove. Dichroic "tongues of flame" rain down through a golden atmosphere of reamy amber glass. Below is a spectrum of seasonal colors from the second half of the church calendar bordered by symbols of the resurrection.
Because the exterior walls flanking the altar in which the stained glass is installed are a considerable distance from the street, dichroic glass and opak white glass was used to create a presence that is visible from passing cars.
