First Baptist Church, Architect: CHAPEL WINDOW Mouthblown and domestic rolled glasses, lenses, lead & solder It was suggested that the flowing clear waters of First Baptist Church’s logo might provide a good staring point for the design of this window. The cool, refreshing spiritual waters cascade down from above between borders that echo a traditional Gothic tracery. This window adds interest, but is not the central focus of worship. Pond-like ripples radiating into the stained glass acknowledge the altar as the true focus and draw attention back toward the altar. These ripples remind us of God’s light that illuminates our worldly paths. These partial arcs also symbolize our human, imperfect understanding of God’s love and His never-failing presence among us. The rich glass palette projects color into the chapel on sunny days and glows warmly on overcast days. The tiny lead-crystal beveled jewels and clear glass lenses represent God’s gifts. The large circular shape represents Jesus Christ, God’s ultimate gift and sacrifice to us. Also, in direct sun the bevels project colorful rainbows. |
