From explanatory notes that accompanied the proposal for Train of Thought IV:

This proposal is for stained glass for the exterior curtainwall window located in the north end of the Conference/Community Room of the New Library Complex at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic, CT.

As a strong vertical component of the library’s facade, and the main feature of the Conference/Community Room’s north wall, this window’s stained glass design will add a dignified presence when viewed from outside, while providing sparkling and animated imagery from within. The stained glass design also is intended to acknowledge its location in a library complex with its many approaches to the retrieval and manipulation of ideas and information. The orderly and vertical procession of lenses represents an essential aspect of knowledge and learning. Their vertical procession represents an essential aspect of knowledge and learning. The ascending (descending) white shapes, in contrast, represent the equally fundamental intuitive components of scholarship and discovery.
