With a less than optimal view out over heavy traffic, parking lots, power lines and warehouses, the windows in this reception area needed some help. The interior architects did not want to stifle the expansive feeling of spatial flow through the window with blinds, curtains or screens. The subtle textures of transparent glasses and white opal and opak glasses limit views out, while preserving the sense of "window".
Originally this installation was to consist of a double layer of stained glass
suspended from tracks allowing them to be repositioned from time to time
for a variable "look" -- an excellent idea that fell to the reality of
the budget. The track system remained with the two end panels on the outside
track allowing the the panels to slide apart for cleaning and maintenance.
Each nickel plated sub-frame connects to trucks rolling in one of the
two tracks. |
