In this location between a brightly illuminated main conference room and a dimly lit corridor, the stained glass must remain animated from both sides simultaneously.

With plenty of light coming through the window on the corridor side, the color and transparency of the glasses is enriched by a zig-zagging ribbon of dichroic glass whose apparent color shifts as people move past. The conference room view of the stained glass is a dramatically different experience. Here, in bright front-lighting, the the reflective opak glass and the rich surface texture of solder joints produce a new personality. The dichroic ribbon now behaves as golden mirror, adding more interest to the window.

Because this window opening was already under construction by the time I was commissioned for this project, the window had to be extensively reinforced with an intricate web of welded steel rebar the follows the leadwork. Ideally, individual panels of stained glass should not exceed a width of 42 - 48" (107 - 122cm) and a maximum area of 6 - 8 square feet (0.56 - 0.74 sq.m) or 8 - 10 square feet (0.74 - 0.93 sq.m) with steel reinforcing.
